When Bianca was pregnant with her first child, she contacted more than a dozen doulas in New York City before finding one who accepted her insurance. During her search, she connected with a doula who opened up about how difficult the billing process was, despite insurance companies and Medicaid reimbursing for doula care. Doulas run their entire business independently: source clients, schedule appointments, develop care plans, bill claims, manage admin, and provide essential support to birthing people before, during, and after labor. That conversation inspired her to build Allies.
The platform helps doulas fill out paperwork in minutes instead of hours, enroll with insurance companies to get reliably paid, and match insured families to trusted providers, freeing doulas to focus on care and grow their practices. With doula regulation and reimbursement rapidly evolving, Bianca is building the backend that is essential for doulas to access the funding that was made available to them, but isn’t always being drawn down.
